Since its opening in 1976 the school has celebrated many milestones all of which have contributed to the wonderful primary academy it is today.
Since joining Diverse Academies in September 2017, it has become a respected and valued school within the community. We have a wonderful team of teaching and non-teaching staff who support the running of the academy, and we are thankful for their continuous dedication and hard work.
To celebrate 50 years, we have displayed a time capsule of photos including class photos, Christmas and Easter celebrations, school plays and staff photos with some of the earliest being from 1985. These photos display the generations of children who have passed through the school and it is wonderful that so many of the photos have been kept to show future generations.
Before it was the Primary Academy it is today the piece of land where the school currently stands was previously a grazing field for horses along the canal, which is why Bracken Lane’s logo includes a horse. We have honoured our history by naming our school houses Hanoverian, Percheron, Clyesdale and Shire, after the horse breeds which used to graze in the fields.
Over the past five decades, we have undergone many changes. When Bracken Lane first opened its doors in 1976, the entire school was run by just four members of staff. The dining hall was originally located on the opposite side of the building and instead of classroom doors, curtains separated the teaching spaces.
Changes to the school continue to this day, with our phased building extension completed earlier this year, creating space for two new classrooms.
We hope that in another 50 years we will still be celebrating Bracken Lane and we can’t wait to see what the future holds.
