Early years foundation stage framework

Our nursery curriculum is based on the early years foundation stage (EYFS) statutory framework which sets standards for learning, development and the care of children from birth to five years old.

Through our play-based delivery of the early years framework, we aim to inspire a life-long love of learning in each child so that they feel happy, confident and ready for school.

We take a holistic approach to child development with personal social and emotional development (PSED) at the forefront of our daily activities. We ensure children are settled and confident in their surroundings with a strong focus on developing communication and language skills.

Nursery children take part in a series of forest school sessions where they can connect with nature through activities such as den building, bush craft, mini beast hunts and making bug houses.

Prime and specific areas of learning and development

In the EYFS we follow the seven areas of learning.

The 3 Prime Areas of the EYFS are:

  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development.

The 4 Specific Areas of the EYFS are:

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

Our half termly topics are a great way for children to grasp different concepts through playing, sharing, talking, doing and experimenting – there’s something to capture the imaginations and curiosities of everyone.
