To support this term’s history and RE studies on life in Germany for the Jewish community after WW1, year 6 classes from Bracken Lane Primary Academy, Tuxford Primary Academy and Thrumpton Primary Academy participated in an online session on Tuesday 23 March, delivered by the The National Holocaust Centre and Museum, Laxton.
The morning began with a workshop and discussion using a mixture of videos and images to tell the history of the Kindertransport through the eyes of a Jewish boy.
We then had the privilege of being part of a live webinar with Ruth Barnett MBE, a Holocaust survivor and Kindertransportee. Ruth’s talk covered many aspects of her early life as well as her views on humanity in general. Each class was able to put questions to Ruth and she shared many words of wisdom with the children too such as, ‘Every single person has a voice – use it and use it sensibly.’
A huge thank you to the centre and to Ruth for an interesting, thought-provoking and inspiring day for pupils and staff alike.
