We are proud to announce that our very own Helen Skelton has been recognised at the Bassetlaw Achievers Award Ceremony on 15 March.

Helen, who is a teaching assistant, inclusion manager and dedicated designated safeguarding lead, was nominated for her tireless dedication to our academy and the wider community.

Helen has been a valued member of our community for over 30 years. Her passion for improving the lives of our children and their families is evident in the work she does everyday to offer support; pastorally, academically and personally.

Helen was delighted to be nominated for the award, describing it as a pleasant and unexpected surprise: “I am very proud to have had such a long association with Bracken Lane Primary Academy. Over the 30 plus years of my employment I have been privileged to have worked for all the headteachers or principals that have held that office. Each of them has facilitated and enhanced the role I’ve undertaken and made it as diverse and interesting as it is today. I am grateful for the opportunities afforded, the trust and the support of a great staff team and humbled by their kind words.”

The contribution that Helen makes to our academy is highly valued by everyone, our children know that Helen has time for them, she openly listens to their successes and their worries and offers guidance, understanding and where needed, a shoulder to cry on. She also makes herself available to parents and carers, she is always willing to support and guide through challenging times. When it comes to staff support, Helen is also second to none- Principal Helen Cawkill shared her appreciation, saying: “Helen is kind and caring, often putting everyone else above herself. Thank you, Helen, for all that you have done and will continue to do.”
