This week, our academy has been filled with excitement as we celebrated World Book Day with fun and engaging adventures for the children. From storytelling sessions to creative costumes, it has been a wonderful way to inspire a love of reading and bring stories to life.

One of the highlights of the week was a visit from storyteller Beth Guiver. She captivated the children with her storytelling, using a range of instruments to set the scene and spark their imaginations. The children were mesmerised and thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the session.

Throughout the week, children had the chance to visit our book fair, where they could purchase books to take home and enjoy. It has been lovely to see their excitement as they picked out new stories to read.

On World Book Day itself, the children looked fantastic in their costumes, dressed as their favourite book characters. They couldn’t wait to show their costumes to their classmates and talk about their chosen characters and stories. The creativity on display was truly inspiring.

We also organised a range of activities to encourage reading and storytelling. Children took part in paired reading sessions with mixed-age groups, joined a live World Book Day lesson, and wrote their own stories. We also made time for book discussions, a book title hunt outside, and a fun story swap where teachers read to different classes.

A particularly special part of this year’s celebration was the use of our brand new library area, which has been created as part of the school building remodel project. It has been fantastic to see the children exploring the space and enjoying books in a fresh, inviting environment. The new library is a wonderful addition to our school, making books more accessible and inspiring a love of reading.
